Christmas stovetop potpourri is a great way to bring the smells of the holiday season to your home and it makes a beautiful DIY Christmas gift! I have included free printable gift tags towards the end of this post. These tags are a great way to put the finishing touch on this thoughtful gift.
What Is Christmas Potpourri?
My sister introduced me to a simple Christmas simmer pot recipe (aka Christmas potpourri) and I was hooked. You can make simmer pots with a lot of simple ingredients. Here is the Christmas simmer pot recipe I made for my Christmas gifts to neighbors, co-workers and teachers this year. The cinnamon sticks, star anise, citrus fruit, whole cloves, cranberries and warm spices made my entire home smell So. Good.
My favorite thing about this gift is that it is so simple. You just add the dried fruit to fresh water (be sure there is enough water to cover the fruit) and put it in a small saucepan over low heat. I kept my fruit on my stove for 4 days and would refill the water and turn on the stove when we were home to fill my house with the scents of Christmas. It was a sure way to get my whole family in the holiday spirit!
Simmer pots aren’t only for Christmas, you can use them all year round as a natural way to add a sweet smell to your home. Brittany at White and Woodgrain has some great recipes for spring time simmer pots to welcome the sunshine back and say goodbye to the snowy winter.
How To Gift Christmas Potpourri
You can make this part as simple or creative as you want. There are adorable canvas bags you could put your simmer pot ingredients in, or you could put it in a mason jar or cellophane bag. This homemade potpourri makes a beautiful diy Christmas gift and it will look beautiful however you wrap it.
I chose simple cellophane bags (at Walmart they are 20 for $1) and tied them with twine (you could also use festive ribbon). I loved using the clear bags because the dried oranges and bright cranberries were so pretty. Don’t forget the free printable gift tag at the end of this post to complete your gift. This gift tag includes simple instructions on how to use the stovetop potpourri. You can include a personal touch with a little note on the back of the tag as well.
If you choose to include fresh ingredients such as fresh rosemary or fresh cranberries make sure to let your gift recipient know that it should be used within 3-5 days. If you are using all dried ingredients the potpourri can be used whenever you please.
There are so many great people to gift this to including:
- Teachers
- Daycare Providers
- Co-workers
- Supervisors or bosses
- Neighbors
- Friends
- Host of a holiday party
Be sure to keep some for you to use in your own home too! 🙂
