Easy Homemade Wassail

Homemade wassail is a traditional holiday drink made with warming spices and apple cider. This easy wassail recipe is a great drink to make for the holidays and one of our favorite cozy winter drinks!

Ingredients
  

  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 naval orange
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1-2 tbsp brown sugar optional
  • Optional: Sliced apples cranberries, star anise

Instructions
 

  • Add the apple cider and orange juice to a large pot on medium heat.
  • Stir in the nutmeg and add the cinnamon sticks.
  • Push the whole cloves into the orange and add to the pot. Add brown sugar to sweeten to taste.
  • Heat on low-medium heat and serve hot.
  • If desired you can add sliced apples, star anise and cranberries to the pot for garnish.

Notes

  • To make in a slow cooker cook on low for 3-4 hours.
  • You can store leftover wassail in the fridge for up to three days.
  • Feel free to modify the amount of brown sugar according to your taste preferences. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more brown sugar.
  • My mom always has a little caramel syrup and whipped topping next to the pot of wassail and I highly recommend both
