Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt Free Printable

Spring is officially here and every day we are noticing more and more signs of spring and everything returning back to life after a long winter! This spring scavenger hunt is a fun nature activity for kids and a great way to observe all the changes spring brings as the seasons shift.

Scavenger hunts are a great way to get outside and encourage kids to observe the small changes happening all around them.  Kids will love searching for all of the new life spring brings including chirping birds, tiny flowers, tree buds and more.  

Kids will also enjoy the feelings of spring including squishing their feet in soggy ground, mud and splashing in rain puddles.

We had so much fun with this fun spring scavenger hunt and it can be used for young children and adapted to challenge older kids as well!  I have some fun learning ideas further down in the post that older kids may be interested in.  

You could also bring these animal track cards to try to identify any animal tracks in the mud as you are completing this spring scavenger hunt!

Fun Ways to Use this Spring Scavenger Hunt Printable

  • Let your kids splash in the puddles or take off their shoes to squish the mud in their toes
  • Once you find a bird nest, see if you can find a squirrel nest or different type of nest
  • Talk about other ways we can observe spring with our senses. How does it smell after it rains? How is the weather changing? What are the different sounds they hear?

Additional Learning Opportunities

Encourage your children to observe what they hear when listening for the bird calls. Learn the difference between bird songs and bird calls by watching this video.  This app is also a fun way to identify different bird calls and we use it a lot on nature walks! 

When you find a tree that is producing sap, talk about how syrup is made.  Did you know there are more than 20 species of trees that you can tap to create different syrup?! 

Talk about what the first spring flowers to appear are including: Snowdrops, crocuses, pansies, daffodils, bluebells, hellebores.  When you find your flowers try to identify which type of flower you have found.  

Talk about when bees emerge from their hive when the days get warmer how they need these small early flowers for nectar and pollen
