This Thanksgiving blessing mix shares the story of Thanksgiving in a fun, hands-on way that kids and adults will love. It’s perfect for classroom fall parties, family gatherings, or gifting to friends and neighbors. Plus, I’ve included a free printable gift tag that explains the meaning behind each ingredient in this sweet snack.

A few years ago we hosted Thanksgiving and I knew I wanted to do something fun with the kids to help them learn about the the story of Thanksgiving. This snack mix was an absolute hit. We had each child pour in one ingredient and share the meaning behind it, at the end we had a delicious snack we enjoyed all weekend long!
This snack is a fun way to help kids focus on gratitude as we enter the holiday season. We also love doing our thankful turkey every year and always have our thankful tree that we complete throughout the month of November. This year I’m going to print out these Thanksgiving dot marker printables for another fun Thanksgiving activity for the kids!
The Story Behind the Thanksgiving Blessing Snack Mix
When the Pilgrims gathered for the first Thanksgiving feast they celebrated friendship, hard work and thankfulness towards the harvest. This snack mix uses fun ingredients to help tell the story in a hands on way that kids will remember long after the treats are gone.
Here is what each ingredient represents:
- Bugles– These represent the Cornucopia, a symbol of abundance and blessing.
- Pretzels– Their twisted shape reminds us of arms folded in prayer, giving thanks for the harvest.
- Rice Cereal Squares– Symbolize the crops and grains gathered by the Pilgrims and Native Americans to sustain them through the winter.
- Candy Corn– Represents the corn that was so important to the Pilgrims and used in many of their meals.
- M&Ms– A sweet reminder of the joy and thankfulness that fills this season.
- Teddy Grahams– Represents the people who came together, families, friends, and neighbors, just like at the first Thanksgiving feast.
