I love the versatility of these stars, they can be used as ornaments on your Christmas tree, string them up together to make a Christmas garland or add them on top of gifts for a cute present topper!
Materials Needed
- Toilet paper roll or cardboard tubes
- Paint (acrylic works best)
- Paint markers
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Ribbon or twine for hanging
Steps to Create Your Toilet Paper Roll Star
- Paint the Toilet Paper Rolls – start by painting your toilet paper rolls in your desired colors. You can use classic holiday colors like red, green, gold, or even a mix for a fun look! Make sure to let the paint dry before moving onto the next step.
- Flatten the Toilet Paper Rolls and Cut into Strips – Once the paint is dry, flatten the toilet paper roll and use a ruler to mark about .75 inches wide. Cut the roll into strips, making sure to keep the width consistent.
- Cut V-Shaped Notches – Now, take your pair of scissors and cut a small ‘V’ shape on the ends of each strip. This gives the star points a crisp, clean edge.
- Assemble the Star – To form your star make an X shape with two of your cut pieces and glue them together in the center. Repeat this step so you have two X shapes made. Then, glue the two X shapes together to create a star that has 8 points.
- Decorate and Add a Hanging String – This is the fun part! You can decorate your star with paint markers, glitter or anything else festive you have around your house. Tie a ribbon or twine around the top to create Christmas ornaments or string twine through multiple stars to create a garland.
