Christmas Ornament Suncatcher Craft
Create your own Christmas ornament suncatchers with fun ornament coloring pages, vegetable oil, and mason jar lids. These suncatchers look festive hanging on your window and are an easy homemade Christmas decoration for kids to make!
We love making suncatchers for all the seasons and these Christmas suncatchers were so simple and fun to make with my kids. They are a little different than the other suncatchers we’ve made with contact paper. These ornaments are made with coloring pages, mason jar lids and olive oil.
Kids will love coloring in the ornament coloring pages and I love that it’s an easy Christmas craft to make with items you most likely already have at home!

How to Make Ornament Suncatchers with Mason Jar Lids
Print off your free ornament coloring pages by filling in the form at the bottom of the page. If you want to make your own designs, just trace the outline of the mason jar lid, use a black marker to create your design inside the circle and then color it in!
Color in your ornaments using crayons, colored pencils, markers or watercolors. Markers have the brightest color when finished.
Dip your cotton ball in a small bowl of oil (you need just a tiny bit on your cotton ball) and wipe across the colored ornaments. If you hold the paper up to the light you can see how it makes it translucent!
Let your paper dry completely.
Take a pencil and trace the outline of your mason jar lid around the ornaments. The tops of the ornament will be cut off and you are mostly aiming to just get the circle portion of the ornament.
Cut out the circles. (This was a great way for my daughter to work on some scissor skills – the circles don’t have to be perfect and have some wiggle room to fit inside the mason jar lid.)
Put glue around the inside of the mason jar lid and place your colored ornaments inside. Allow to dry.
Wrap a long piece of twine around the outside of the mason jar lid and use to hang up on your window! Tie a ribbon around the twine on top for a cute bow đŸ™‚
