After we made our fall leaf suncatchers and our pumpkin tissue paper suncatchers this fall I knew making suncatchers would be a craft we would want to continue through all the seasons.  It is a great way for my preschooler to work on her fine motor skills and they always look so bright and cheery hanging in the windows!

I love how simple this Christmas craft is and my kids had so much fun making their Christmas trees and adding all the colorful lights through different colored tissue paper.  This would make a fun Christmas party craft for kids as well as a great classroom activity for the holidays!

How to Make a Christmas Tree Suncatcher

First print out the Christmas tree template if using.

Cut it out and trace the outline of the Christmas tree on a piece of green or black construction paper.

Cut out the inside of the tree shape.

Add a piece of contact paper to the construction paper.

Either precut cut tissue paper squares or have your child cut squares of tissue paper to add to the Christmas tree.

I also used a hole punch and star punch to cut out the colored tissue paper and since they were so little we added them first to make the Christmas tree lights.  Small squares of colored tissue paper work just as great and may be easier for little hands to pick up!

Arrange the tissue paper squares on the sticky side of the contact paper in whatever design you would like.  We used different shades of green with pops of colored paper for our trees!

If desired you can add another piece of contact paper on the back of the tree to secure the tissue paper squares.

We always skip this part, but I would recommend adding the second piece of contact paper if you would like to keep these for future years.
