We have been having so much fun making recycled Christmas crafts lately, these egg carton jingle bells were so fun to make and my preschooler had a lot of fun making these Christmas suncatcher ornaments made with recycled Mason jar lids!

We saved our egg cartons to make these recycled Christmas trees! I love how each child was able to individualize theirs and they are the sweetest craft to set out for the Christmas season. It is an awesome craft for older children but with a little help this craft is perfect for preschool aged kids too!

Materials Needed

  • Egg carton (cardboard)
  • Green paint or paint markers
  • Sequins, glitter, pom-poms or beads
  • Popsicle sticks or small sticks
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrushes

Step-by-Step Instructions

Cut the egg carton cups out of the empty egg cartons, these will be the tree layers

Poke a hole through the top of the cup where the stick or popsicle stick will be placed later in this craft- you do not need to do this to the cup that will be the top of your tree. Alternatively, you can hot glue your stick in place if you do not want to make a hole.

Paint the egg carton cups, we painted ours green to resemble a Christmas tree

Decorate the egg carton cups, the glitter is easiest to put on when the paint is still wet but the other items stay best when the paint has dried- there are lots of fun ways to decorate so let your child take creative freedom during this step

Let the cups dry

Stack the tree by placing a small stick or popsicle stick through the hole in the top of the cups as a spacer so the cups don’t nest too tightly.
