Research shows that daily predictable routines help children feel safe and secure, giving them the confidence to try new things independently. The American Academy of Pediatrics even recommends routine charts like these for building executive function and responsibility in young kids.
When kids know what’s expected, mornings feel less rushed and more peaceful. Pair this checklist with a solid nighttime routine and you’ll really start to see a difference. (Don’t miss our free bedtime routine chart with simple, kid-friendly visuals that support good habits at night, too.)
These charts are an easy way to help lay out daily tasks for kids without parents needing to give constant reminders.
Why Use a Visual Morning Checklist?
Visual checklists help kids break down tasks into manageable steps and reduce the need for constant reminders. It helps create stress-free mornings (or at least a little more stress free because who are we kidding- kids will be kids :)). This printable includes 7 common morning tasks:
- Brush teeth
- Wash face
- Comb hair
- Make bed
- Clean up room
- Get dressed
- Eat breakfast
There are two versions:
- A simple visual checklist with words and pictures- this is great for toddlers and preschoolers
- A weekly tracker with checkboxes for each task so kids can check off what they’ve done each day – this is perfect for an older child who struggles with multistep instructions and needs a way to help stay organized in the morning
Both versions empower children to take ownership of their morning routine, perfect for visual learners and kids who thrive with structure.
How To Use This Morning Routine Chart
Print and hang it in a visible place such as on the fridge, bathroom mirror, or bedroom door. (We love using these magnetic dots, you could also use velcro dots)
We like to laminate this visual schedule (here is my go to laminator)- you can even have your child use a dry erase marker to check off their completed tasks which gives them a sense of accomplishment!
Walk through the checklist together the first few mornings.
Celebrate small wins as your child begins completing it on their own!
