This craft makes for an adorable secret message valentine. My 4 year old had so much fun writing me his hidden messages and was so excited when I uncovered them. (His message was something along the lines of “I love you mom, I think you are pretty great” however the spelling was in his own 4 year old code that I struggled with cracking :)).
My kids think that the white crayon is like invisible ink which is apparently super cool :). If you have older kids you could have them create their own special code with a decoding sheet to add an extra layer of fun to this activity!
This would be a fun idea for a DIY valentines card to give to your child or for them to make for their classmates or loved ones. I love homemade Valentine’s Day cards. This activity puts a special twist on the term “secret valentine”.
How To Make Your Secret Message Valentine
Take a piece of water color paper and cut it out into a heart shape
With your white crayon write a message on your water color paper

Take your water colors (remember this can be watered down in a 1:1 ratio of water color to water) and use a paintbrush to paint it onto the heart
Uncode your special note

Fun Variations & Ideas
- Classroom Activity: Have students write kind messages for each other before painting.
- Gift Idea: Attach to a small Valentine’s treat or use as a card!
