Christmas Lacing Cards – Free Printable
Christmas themed lacing cards are a wonderful winter fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers. These free printable Christmas lacing cards are perfect for road trips and make a great on the go activity for little hands this holiday season!

Lacing cards, or sewing cards, are a fun and simple craft that does not require many supplies to get started.
They are a fun way to help your little ones work on their fine motor skills and concentration. When your preschooler is working on their lacing cards it is a nice time to slow down and spend some quality time with them in conversation or you could do a read aloud. This is a great list of Christmas and winter books for preschoolers.
Most of the supplies needed to make your own lacing cards you probably already have in your home! Laminating is optional, but it does help the cards withstand enthusiastic little hands and keep the cards intact so they can be used for multiple years!

- Printer
- Card stock

- Hole Punch
- Laminator (optional)
- Yarn, string, or shoelaces
How to Make Lacing Cards for Toddlers and Preschoolers
- First download the free printable Christmas lacing cards template which you will find at the bottom of the post.
- Print the template on cardstock
- Laminate if desired
- Cut out the shapes
- Use a hole punch to punch out the white dots on the templates
- Use yarn or string to thread in and out of the holes either around the perimeter or in a pattern.
How to Use Lacing Cards
Sewing cards are a great activity for young children to work on their fine motor skills and they kept my three and four year old busy for quite a while!
Toddlers will most likely thread their yarn all over the picture and that’s ok! (For example my 3 year olds gingerbread man looked more like a gingerbread mummy…:)
It takes a lot of concentration and hand-eye coordination to go in and out of the holes and whatever they can do is great!
Put your lacing cards in your kids busy bags and pull them out whenever there is downtime at a restaurant or a long car ride.
Older kids will enjoy practicing their running stitch on the lacing cards and it is a great hand craft to prepare them for future sewing projects.
It really is fun to see the progression of the younger kids starting to thread their yarn all over the picture and eventually learn the correct way to weave in and out of the holes.
It is a low stress activity for the Christmas season and a great way to combine learning with fun. Also, the lacing cards would make fun budget friendly stocking stuffers or gifts!
