How to Make Rainbow Bubble Snakes
If you are looking for a fun summer bubble activity, these rainbow bubble snakes or sock bubbles are a fun summer activity for kids!

The chalk on the sidewalk and bubbles floating through the air are sure signs that summer is here! When summer rolls around, my kids love playing with bubbles and last summer we had so much fun making these bouncing bubbles!
We were excited to try making these fun rainbow bubbles and now these rainbow bubble snakes are one of our favorite ways to make bubbles!
They are fun to make with just the bubble solution, but the food coloring adds a fun colorful element that my kids loved!
This is a fun summer project for kids of all ages!
You can decorate your bubble snake maker with fun duct tape and have a little friendly competition to see who can blow the longest bubble!
Supplies
- Empty plastic bottle
- Rubber band or duct tape
- Old sock or cloth
- Dish soap
- Water
- Liquid food coloring (optional)
- Shallow bowl
- Scissors
How to Make Rainbow Snake Bubbles
First, cut off the bottom of your water bottle.
Add the piece of cloth or sock to the bottom of the water bottle and secure with either a rubber band or duct tape. Cut off the excess cloth or sock so it doesn’t flop over and interfere with the bubbles.
Create your bubble solution by adding a squirt of dawn to the bottom of a shallow container and add a little bit of water, around 1-2 tablespoons. Gently stir to combine.
Now you can dip the bottom of the water bottle with the sock on it into the soap solution and blow air through the water bottle to create tiny bubbles!
Careful not to breathe in the bubbles, my little one needed a lot of reminders to take their mouth off the bottle to breathe before blowing into the bubble blower again.
If you would like you can add food coloring to the top of your sock to make rainbow bubbles.
The colors will mix so choose colors that complement each other if you don’t want brown, which is what we ended up with the first time 🙂
Tips for Making Rainbow Sock Bubbles
It does get quite messy when you add in the food coloring so make sure to wear old clothing you don’t mind getting stained.
Make sure your elastic band holds your sock all the way around the cut end of the bottle otherwise bubbles will sneak through the openings.
These work best on a day with little or no wind. The wind will cause the bubble snake to break, so you can still make them, it just will be harder to make long bubbles.
