Who doesn’t love fun Thanksgiving treats? Turkey doughnuts are such a fun activity to do with your little ones and are so easy! With a candy corn beak, candy eyes and fruit loops for turkey feathers there isn’t much not to like. We had so much fun making these last year and can’t wait to do it again this Thanksgiving (pro mom tip: these are a great way to entertain kids after a Thanksgiving meal when the adults want a quick nap :)).
These also make for a great activity if you are looking for a good classroom activity for Thanksgiving. Pair it with this cute Thanksgiving turkey hat and a good book (we love Bear Says Thanks) and you’ve got a full on class party!
These easy turkey donuts make a fun Thanksgiving breakfast, a special Thanksgiving treat or can even be your Thanksgiving dessert! It is an awesome activity for kids of all ages and there is no wrong way to make your turkey, so bring on the creativity!
Materials
- Candy eyes
- Store-bought donuts or handmade donuts
- Candy corn
- Fruit loops
- Tooth picks
How To Make Your Turkey Donut
Purchase or make your donut- we prefer glazed doughnuts but a chocolate donut would be a fun option too
Pour the fruit loops in a bowl and set aside
Have your child put in the toothpicks along the top edge of the doughnut (these will be used to string the fruit loops onto for the feathers)
Place the fruit loops onto the toothpicks in any color pattern your child would like
Add the candy eyes to the front of the donut
Top off with a piece of candy corn for the nose on the front part of the donut
“Gobble” this adorable treat up!
Variations When Making Your Turkey Donut
- You could use mini donuts or a donut hole to create mini turkey donuts
- Use chocolate chips instead of candy eyes
- Go one step further and create a turkey donut race car
- Create a learning opportunity and have your child create a pattern with the fruit loops- you can talk about AB or ABC patterns
Storage
These can last 2-3 days at room temperature in an airtight container. However, they are best fresh, especially if you are using homemade doughnuts!
So fun! My kids will love this!
Thank you! The jury is out in my house whether making these or eating them was more fun 🙂
