How To Make Caramel Apple Pops
Caramel apples are a classic treat and these caramel apple pops have all the classic flavor with none of the sticky mess. This recipe is a perfect way to feed a crowd and is so easy to make.
We love eating caramel apples in our house. There is something so yummy about the tartness of the granny smith apple and the sweetness of the caramel and all of the classic toppings. However, eating a whole apple often feels like too much and ends up being a sticky mess. These caramel apple lollipops keep that yummy taste but are so much easier to make and are just the right size for a little treat.
At our family’s fall party we had a really fun time making these together. Everyone was able to pick out their favorite toppings and make their own little caramel apple treat. This is a great way to use apples that you get apple picking at a local orchard in the fall.
Ingredients
- Granny smith apples
- Caramel sauce
- Favorite toppings:
- Heath pieces
- Mini chocolate chips
- Crushed graham crackers
- M&Ms
- White chocolate chips
- Butterscotch chips
- Dark chocolate chips
Process
Lay out a piece of parchment paper on your sheet pan
Slice your granny smith apples into 1/2″-1″ thick slices, if you cut them any thinner than half-inch slices it becomes difficult to get the popsicle stick into the slice
Create a small slit at the bottom of the apple slice and put your wooden popsicle stick into this opening
Melt your caramel in a shallow bowl
Once the caramel is ready to use dunk the apple slice into it covering the entire slice
Lay the apple onto the parchment-lined baking sheet
While the caramel is still warm top with your favorite caramel apple toppings
Let cool & enjoy your sweet treat!
Storage of Your Caramel Apple Pops
These are best when eaten right after they are made. If you would like to store leftovers you can cover the apples with plastic wrap or put them in an airtight container and store in your fridge for 24 hours. I recommend putting a little lemon juice on the apples before your store them to help prevent the apples from turning brown. The next day your apples may have a little more liquid around them from the caramel and toppings but they will still taste delicious!
Variations
If you would prefer to make your own caramel topping Sally’s Baking Recipes has an indulgent caramel sauce recipe. You could also melt caramel squares or caramel candies in a microwave safe bowl to create your caramel sauce (this is how we do it) or if you are in a pinch you can use the premade caramel sauce from the store. A little tip- if you need your caramel to be a bit thinner add a little coconut oil to it.
Be creative with different toppings- I have listed our favorites above but you could be creative and try other delicious toppings like brown sugar, salt, peanuts or marshmallow creme. These would also be so good with melted dark chocolate or white chocolate drizzled over them.
Have fun! Make a silly face, pumpkin or fun design when creating your caramel apple pop.
Granny smith apples are the classic apples to use when making traditional caramel apples, however we have used many other varieties (because that is what we had on hand) and they also taste great. It just depends on your preference for how tart or sweet you want your apples to be.
