Hot chocolate snow ice cream is a fun and easy snow cream recipe that takes fresh, real snow, mixed with a packet of your favorite hot chocolate and a few other simple ingredients to make delicious chocolate snow cream.
If the thought of eating snow weirds you out, I promise it’s delicious and such a fun way to get outside and enjoy the snowy weather.
Your kids will love the tradition of celebrating the first big snowfall with making snow ice cream and both this chocolate snow cream recipe and our vanilla snow ice cream recipe are easy to make and so tasty!
Why you will love this recipe
- It requires very simple ingredients you will most likely have on hand. If you don’t have any hot chocolate mix you could aways just add cocoa and a bit of sugar to make chocolate snow cream. You could also just opt for a vanilla snow ice cream recipe instead! But, I’m guessing you’re here because you like chocolate 🙂
- It is an easy recipe for kids to make! They can mix it all up outside and will love the independence they can have in making this recipe!
- There are so many fun mix ins – Add chocolate chips, marshmallows, gummy worms, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, really whatever you like – This is a fun recipe to try new flavor combinations!
Ingredients
- Fresh snow
- Hot cocoa mix (or 2 tbsp cocoa powder with 1/4 cup sugar)
- Whole milk or heavy cream
- Toppings (optional)
How to make Hot Chocolate Snow Ice Cream
Mix your hot chocolate mix (or cocoa and sugar) and milk in a large bowl until it’s combined.
Go outside and add fresh snow until it’s your desired consistency. We usually find 7-10 cups work well!
Add fun toppings, like marshmallows or chocolate chips and enjoy your snowy treat!
More Ideas for Making Chocolate Snow Ice Cream
- There are so many fun flavors of hot chocolate mix, try different flavors like peppermint or dark chocolate and make a few small batches of the recipe. You can then do a taste test to see if you can guess the different packets. (We really like taste tests in our family:))
- This snow ice cream melts quickly if you want to eat it inside, so I recommend enjoying it outside if it’s not too cold!
- You can save your leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer just like normal ice cream! The recipe does taste better eaten right away though!
This is such a simple recipe for kids to make and play with different flavors. My daughters felt so independent adding the snow until it looked “just right” and completing their bowls with fun add ins. They love cooking, so giving them full reign over this recipe was really fun for them!
We love this hot chocolate ice cream recipe and hope you have lots of fun making this fun winter recipe with your family!
