Baby and Toddler Trail Mix Recipe

This baby and toddler trail mix recipe is so simple and is one of our favorite snacks to bring along when we are taking a road trip, going on a hike, having a play date or are out and about and need a healthy snack for my little one. The best part is that this toddler snack mix is not only a hit with young toddlers but also older kids too!

We are always looking for simple ways to make snack time fun while also trying to keep it healthy. Most trail mix recipes have chocolate chips or nuts which are delicious but not the best choice for toddlers. Finding a store-bought trail mix that is nut free almost impossible to find so I set out to make my own baby & toddler friendly trail mix. I have to say, my little girl loves this toddler-friendly snack, and this mom loves the fact that it is a super simple recipe! 🙂

This baby trail mix is perfect for little ones who are eating solid foods but the best thing about this snack is that big kids love it too! The dried fruit, yogurt melts and puffs literally melt in your mouth which gives me peace of mind when my little one is eating it. This healthy trial mix snack is also perfect for rainy days or a movie night and is the perfect make-ahead snack!

Instructions For Making Baby and Toddler Trail Mix

In a large mixing bowl combine the ingredients in any order. Know this is completely flexible and you can add more or less to your child’s liking! It is so much fun to allow your child to help with making this homemade toddler trail mix. They can dump the bags, mix it up and even take a little taste test.

Once the baby and toddler trail mix is combined store it in an airtight container. We loved using the empty puff container for this but you could use zip lock snack bags, tupperware container or a mason jar. Bigger kids would be a great help with filling the storage container, you can have them scoop it into the container with a measuring cup or large funnel.

Tips/Tricks When Making This On The Go Snack

  • Use the empty puff container to store your mix, it is an easy container to throw in the the diaper bag
  • If you are making this for a child less than 1 year of age we recommend not using honey nut Cheerios and picking a different flavor like berry Cheerios- this post helps explain why to avoid honey in your child’s first year
  • The raspberries and blueberries were an absolute hit but did lead to some messy hands- if you are looking for something a little less messy dried pears or apples would be a great choice

Variations

We love the mix above and it is our favorite combination to make. However, the best part about this toddler trail mix recipe is that it can be easily changed if your little one likes different things, or if you are making this for older kids.

Some fun variations for kids of all ages include:

  • Freeze-dried strawberries
  • Goldfish crackers
  • Chocolate chips
  • Berry cheerios

  • Puff popcorn

For older kids (over the age of 5) these are some great additions:
